With unemployment rates at an all-time low and businesses spending more time on their employee engagement, the job market has become very candidate driven, meaning securing a high calibre candidate can be a struggle. It’s more important than ever to ensure your company and job vacancy appear attractive to candidates and once you have a candidate you react quickly. 1.Job Advert

  • Make sure the job title is correct and relevant to the role
  • Ensure your company benefits are included in your job description – this will demonstrate your business as one that gives back to their employees
  • The salary must reflect the industry standard and complexity and responsibilities of the role
  • Advertise in the right places – don’t just rely on word of mouth or your business website

2.Reviewing Applications

 

  • Long CV deadlines are a thing of the past – If you wait to review CV’s, candidates who applied may no longer be available. (This could happen as quickly as two days)
  • React Quickly to Applications
  • Ensure flexibility in your review process, sometimes rigid scoring systems can work against the business and you lose out on the most suitable candidate for the role

3.Interview Process

  • Allow the candidate the opportunity to see their potential working environment
  • Your interview process should be engaging and encourage candidates to ask questions
  • The process should educate candidates on any induction process or training the business offers to new starters

4.Post Interview

  • Always ensure you respond to unsuccessful applicants after interview, and provide feedback, wishing them luck for the future
  • Successful candidates should receive their offer letters and contract prior to their first day and in good time following any verbal job offer
